Samyana: Total Attention

Ancient yogic sages coined the term Samyana to point to a quality of attention that non-yoga practitioners rarely understand or experience. Samyana means total attention; it is a combination of the final three limbs, or stages, of yoga practice which are: Dharana - holding the mind in one place; Dhyana - the uninterrupted flow of Awareness towards the object of attention, and, Samadhi - a way of being where Awareness sees and acts 'through' rather than 'with' the mind... these limbs are also known as Concentration, Meditation and Emancipation yet it is the very knowing of these as such that causes them to be separate instead of integrated, and for most yoga practitioners the experience of Samyana usually takes many years or decades of dedicated practice.
